You've got questions, The Necessarian has answers.
What is The Necessarian's editing process? Once you contact me about services, we will schedule a brief phone call to discuss the details of how the editing process unfolds. I use Google Docs, exclusively, so we can work on the same document in real time and so we have a record of our revisions.
Other editors charge per hour. Why do you charge per page? I value your time and mine, and do not believe in over- or under-charging based on efficiency (or lack thereof). By establishing rates based on the number of pages, we each have a clear understanding and expectation of what my services cost.
How many words does one page include (for the per page rate)? 500 words
Do you offer grant writing services? I am an editor, not a grant writer. However, you and I can work together to craft a clear, concise statement, description, or other document which you can pass along to whomever you hire as your grant writer.
What if I’m self-conscious about my writing? You’ve come to the right place!
What is the turnaround time for editing services? For general editing services under five pages the turnaround time is four to five days; subscribers have priority. I offer rush editing services for an additional fee.
Do you offer advising, consulting, or coaching services for artists? I offer editing services, only.
Can I get The Necessarian monthly e-newsletter without subscribing to one of the services? The monthly e-newsletter is not available without a paid subscription to either the Pop Up or On Call editing services. However, you are welcome to join my general email list and receive semi-regular emails that include self-editing tips, words of encouragement, notifications of special offers, some of my favorite resources, and more.
What experience and/or qualifications do you have? I have been working as an editor, writer, and arts administrator for more than a decade. You can read my resume on the About page of this site.
Do you work with people other than artists? I prefer to work with artists but do work with industries and sectors, both private and public, outside the arts.
Do you work only with visual artists? I prefer to work with visual artists but also work with literary and performing artists.
Do you work with artists who have dyslexia or face other reading and/or writing challenges? Yes.
Do you work with artists who do not speak English, or offer translation services? Currently, I only work with artists who are fluent (or almost fluent) in English. If you are multi-lingual and would like to collaborate to offer editing and/or translation services, please feel free to contact me. I have additional questions about The Necessarian services, subscriptions, and/or project management. How can I get answers? You can email me through the Contact page of this website.
